This entrances is about the use of mathematics in the higher level of volleyball. A few years ago, a powerfull software was created to help volleyball coaches in the scouting of the other teams.
This program also helps your own team to see the strengths and weaknesses of your players. It's not a free software, although is quite expensive, that's why is only used in professional teams, such as national ones (Japan, EEUU, Germany etc...) and the program is recognised by lots of federations.
It helps your team to predict the other team's movementes using the tendences and also helps the blocker to predict the attack direction and timing of the opposites and outsided hiters.
The statistic are also used in lower levels of volleyball, using homemade tables and templates to mark the data of your team, taking into account reception, serving, attack, defence and block.
In this kind of sheets, it's used a system of -, 0 & +, and then it's shown to the players in order to make them see their actions. Another useful way of making them learn from their mistakes is filming the matches and visualize them in group.
